The Student Environmental Center and all of our colleagues in the Campus Sustainability Movement would like to thank you all for your support at UCSC’s 8th Annual Earth Summit! This year's theme, Collaboration towards a Sustainable Campus and Community, was certainly done justice as you all came together to create and further our shared vision for a sustainable campus! Read the campus news article about the event here.
The notes from each of the fourteen Earth Summit Topic Groups will be compiled into the 2009 Blueprint for a Sustainable Campus, which will be released toward the middle of Spring Quarter and will be posted with past Blueprints here: http://www.enviroslug.org/
There is a lot going on in the Sustainability Community this Spring! If you are interested in learning more about living sustainability (and I know you are!) I highly suggest you check out the Education for Sustainable Living Program, a 2-unit (CLEI 61) or 5-unit (CLEI-161) Spring Quarter course organized and run entirely by students! For more information on ESLP, contact Henry Symons at hbmsymons@gmail.com. ESLP lectures are open to nonstudents to sit in and learn as well.
Also in the Spring the SEC’s Green Building Campaign will be working to pass student Ballot Measure 28, which will ensure that UCSC’s investment of 100% renewable energy credits will support LOCAL renewable energy projects (as opposed to renewable energy projects on the East Coast as it does right now). Ballot Measure 28 will NOT increase Student Fees. For more information on Measure 28 contact Katie Simkover at ksimkove@ucsc.edu.
Again, thank you all so much for supporting UCSC’s Campus Earth Summit in its 8th year, we look forward to seeing you in the future.
