Our Spring Course
ESLP Fosters Horizontal Learning
Our Spring Quarter class centers around two key components. The first is a weekly Speaker Series, featuring leaders and activists from across the country who share diverse perspectives on sustainability. The second is a series of interactive workshops, where additional facilitators engage with students to foster collaboration, inspire action, and empower the next generation of leaders in sustainability and climate justice.
CRSN61: Class Facilitators
Our ESLP class facilitators hold paid positions offered annually by Enviroslug. They undergo facilitation training, dedicate the winter quarter to class preparation, and fully immerse themselves in the facilitation experience during the spring quarter. The class facilitators are mentored by the ESLP advisor and are responsible for assigning, grading, and facilitating class discussions.
ESLP takes pride in offering this unique, 2-unit student-led course every Spring Quarter. CRSN61 is sponsored by RCC and is open to all students, regardless of college affiliation, major, or year.

Karina has been a Board member since 2018. An Indigenous Chicana born and raised in Watsonville, she continues to call this community home. Growing up, she witnessed firsthand the challenges that small rural towns like hers face, from the impacts of climate change to systemic criminalization. This experience fueled her passion for environmental justice and racial equity, leading her to her current role at the MILPA Collective. There, she works to create opportunities for local youth and address the root causes of the school-to-prison pipeline. Karina also serves on the City of Watsonville’s Climate Action and Adaptation Committee, as well as two Santa Cruz County commissions—the Women’s Commission and the Human Services Commission.
